Last night was the first night of the May Full Moon in Sagittarius – also known as the Flower Moon, the Mother’s Moon, the Milk Moon, and the Corn Planting Moon.

I have been looking forward to this night for a while now, first of all, because I absolutely love the Moon, and second of all because I have been in need of a good energetic cleansing.

The Moon’s Healing Powers

All celestial bodies – planets, stars, comets, and moons, to name a few – have their own energetic properties. Our lovely Moon embodies a nurturing and magical feminine energy. She represents the mystical, the emotional, and the intuitive. When the Moon is at her fullest, her bright and brilliant energy illuminates all of our internal “stuff” – everything that we have been holding inside – our fears, our anger, and our pain. Beyond that, the Full Moon has the power to help us use that illuminating light to heal and transform any vibrations within and around us that are low, negative, and grey.

Full Moon Forgiveness Ceremony

For several months now, I have been following the Full Moon Forgiveness ceremony created by best-selling author, and acclaimed astrologer and moonologer, Yasmin Boland. I highly recommend that you check out her book, Moonology, as well as her website, moonology.com.

As part of my ceremony, I begin by making a list of all that I’d like to forgive and release for the month. This month I felt that there was more for me to release than usual – the changing energies in and around our planet Earth, as well as the surrounding galaxy, and other dimensions, have had a particularly strong effect on me over the last few weeks. I’ve been revisiting a lot of heavy, low-vibrating emotions – like sadness, regret, and jealousy. However, instead of wallowing in these emotions, I’ve been observing them. I’ve noticed how tired they make me feel, simply by thinking about them. Which ultimately means, it’s time to let them go.

My Spiritual Guides have often said to me that in order for us to truly be free of any given situation, lesson, or challenge, we must make peace and be free from the emotional energy behind it. We must Forgive, even if we won’t ever Forget.

And the Moon helps us to do exactly this.
The Moon holds no judgment.

Her boundless supply of gentle healing energy comforts us, illuminates us, and cleanses us with unconditional love.

After I’ve written the list of those I’d like to forgive (which, this month, included myself!) I sit quietly for about ten minutes, sending forgiveness and light to all I included. I also take the time to write a gratitude list for the month, and for all time. Then, I recite the Full Moon Forgiveness and Karma Release Formula, which Yasmin Boland created:

“Under the glorious Full Moon, I forgive everything, everyone, every experience, every memory of the past or present that needs forgiveness. I forgive positively everyone. I also forgive myself of past mistakes. The Universe is love, and I am forgiven and governed by love alone. Love is now adjusting my life. Realizing this, I abide in peace.”

The next part is optional, but I truly love the vibe behind these words:

“I bring love and healing to all my thoughts, beliefs and relationships. I learn my lessons and move on. I call on my soul fragments to be cleansed by Full Moon and I call on them to rejoin me. I send to myself and everyone I know, and everyone who knows me, in all directions of time. Under this glorious Full Moon, I am healed. My life is healed. And so it is. So be it.”

Finally, I burn both my forgiveness and gratitude lists – with a bit of sage – to “seal the deal” so to speak, by releasing the energies of the ceremony out into the Universe so that they may be transmuted and transformed into Love.

And, if I’m being completely honest, I love watching the paper. Fire (in a controlled environment, thankyouverymuch) is comforting to me. I love being near bonfires, hearth fires, candles, etc.

After the Full Moon

If you missed the Moon at her fullest, don’t despair! The energy will continue to be charged and vibrant for a few days. Once you see her start to wane (or disappear bit by bit), however, you’ll know that she’s moved on. But, there’s always next month! And, you can count down the days until the New Moon when the energy will be perfect for setting intentions and manifesting for the month ahead.

Do you have a favorite Full Moon ritual? I’d love to hear about it!
